Mini Review: The Goldbergs

Look! It’s the 80’s!

A comedy about a family, you guessed it, The Goldbergs in the 80’s

My review

Let me preface this by saying that I am a sucker for sitcoms, so you have been warned, there will be a lot of that in heerrre yo. ahem OK so The Goldbergs is quite frankly what you would expect of a family sitcoms in 2013 aesthetically speaking at least and if you are a fan of show like the terribly underrated The Middle or the overrated Modern Familly you will probably enjoy The Goldbergs. As a Matter of fact i am quite surprised ABC decided not to pair it with its other familly oriented sitcoms on Wednesday instead of following the seemingly incompatible Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, doesn’t make sense to me but hey what do I know.

So yeah the main twist here is that it is based on the creator of the show own family experience in the 80’s. I am sure that you probably had the experience of watching old tapes or pictures and as you recollect the antics of your crazy relatives with loved ones going boy oh boy that would make a fantastic movie or OMG! The things I could write on that! Well that is basically what the creator tried to do here. Going as far as recreating moments captured on, gasp, videotape.

When all is said and done, I enjoyed the show and coming myself from a family that gave me a lot sitcom worthy moments (Yes my life is a continuous melodrama and it would make a great TV show, YES IT WOULD!), I can understand where he is coming from.

My only suggestion would be to tone it down a little bit. For the most part I enjoyed the parents (special mention to Wendi McLendon-Covey from Bridesmaids) but it is entirely too loud, too broad and it can get on the nerves.

My grade
